Below is a list of 14 Old Testament PROPHECIES of Messiah fulfilled in Christ Jesus:
This chart contains only 14 of the approximately 300 prophecies regarding
Messiah that were fulfilled in Jesus. All of these come from Old Testament
books that have been fully authenticated by both Christian and secular
historians and archaeologists from the Qumran Texts found near the Dead Sea
between 1946 and 1956. All of these texts verified the accuracy of every book
found in the King James Version of the Old Testament with the exception of the
Book of Esther (for which no scrolls were found). The Qumran Texts date to at
least one century BEFORE the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.
IMPORTANT additional information regarding the chart above…
1. Most of the probabilities assigned have been based on a simple ‘true’ or ‘false’, rather than actually making an attempt to account for the likelihood that a particular ‘random prediction’ of a similar nature regarding a single person would result in an accurate prediction.
2. Extremely conservative values were assigned to prophecies where a wide variety of numbers or options were available. For example, only the 20 largest cities and towns in Judea, excluding the region of Samaria, were considered when determining the likelihood of the prophecy of Jesus’ birthplace being accurately prophesied. In actuality, the number could well have been more than 10 times larger with additional consideration being given to the fact that certain regions would have to have been excluded due to the changes in governments and geography in the region in the centuries following the prophecy. The same holds true for the prophecy regarding Messiah coming ‘out of Egypt’ as well – which means the number 12 which was used in the chart would most likely be much, much larger.
3. A number of factors were completely ignored when assigning a probability to the accuracy of the prophecy of Jesus’ Crucifixion. The most significant of these is that, while some ancient forms of crucifixion on an X-shaped cross (which involved tying the victim’s arms and legs to the crucifix) and hanging on a tree (which involved tying the victim’s arms to tree branches and binding the torso to the trunk) did exist – the more cruel and inhumane Roman form of crucifixion did not exist until approximately 700 years AFTER this prophecy was written. Attempting to take into account the likelihood of a form of execution that did not even exist as being applied to Messiah in conjunction with the other related prophecies of His punishment and death alone would result in a staggering number!!!
4. The prophecy that Messiah would be called a Nazarene found in Isaiah 11:1 and fulfilled in Matthew 2:23 is not even addressed in this table at all; however, the double meaning of ‘Branch’ (Hebrew – ‘Netzer’) that He would both come from Jesse through the line (branch) of David AND that He would be a Nazarite/Nazarene is obviously clear to the Gospel writer Matthew – a Jew who is knowledgeable in the Old Testament Scriptures. That a prophecy from Isaiah would accurately place both the lineage and the hometown of Messiah when that town did not as yet exist, and at a time when Israel was divided and about to go into captivity with an uncertainty as to whether they would even have a future as a nation or as a race, is quite remarkable in itself!!!
